Joseph P. Wood is a 2024-2025 Fulbright Scholar for the Republic of Georgia. In 2023, he was awarded a grant from the American Research Institute of the South Caucasus for his current book project, Uncommon Condition: The English Philology Classroom in Georgia in the Age of Covid and Russian Aggression.

Wood has taught in both American and Georgian literature classrooms. In cooperation with Akaki Tsereteli State University in Kutaisi, Georgia, he has co-developed a Collaborative Online International Learning course for both UAB and ATSU students on the epic form in global literature. At UAB, he teaches special topics courses in comparative literature (particularly Eurasian literature), English Composition, and Creative Writing.

Finally, Wood is also the author of four books and five chapbooks of poetry, which include YOU. (Etruscan, 2015) and Broken Cage (Brooklyn Arts, 2014; finalist for 2013 National Poetry Series). His work has appeared widely, in journals such as Boston Review, Denver Quarterly, Gulf Coast, Indiana Review, North American Review, and Verse Daily, among others.
