Who should complete this course?
Are you responsible for generating, handling, packing, or electronically signing a manifest requesting hazardous waste for pickup and disposal? If so, it is required to complete this training course annually. This training only covers hazardous waste policies and procedures. If you handle any other types of waste, it may require other training. A copy of the completed training certificate must be maintained in the laboratory files and presented to the proper authorities upon request.Read more

CS101: Chemical Safety Training
Who should complete this course?
Do you handle harmful chemicals during your work? If so, it is required to complete this training course every two years (or if regulations change). UAB’s Chemical Safety Training (CS101) is based on the Occupational Safety and Health Administration’s (OSHA) Laboratory Standard. The goal of the Laboratory Standard is to educate employees about the potentially hazardous chemicals in their area and how to minimize exposure. This course provides information on identifying risks associated with hazardous chemicals, minimizing exposure, labeling, and inventory requirements, and the correct procedures to respond to emergencies. A copy of the completed training certificate must be maintained in the laboratory files and presented to the proper authorities upon request.

HS200: Hazard Communication
Who Should Complete This Course?
The Hazard Communication Program covers all UAB Employees (including Faculty, Staff, and Other Employees) on campus. The Chemical Hygiene Plan includes anyone working in a laboratory. The Hazard Communication Plan applies to any hazardous material, which is known to be present in the workplace in such a manner that employees may be exposed under normal conditions or of use in a foreseeable emergency. This Plan is also applicable to employees involved in work operations where employees only handle chemicals in sealed containers, which are not opened under normal conditions. Regulatory Agencies require this training as a part of your Right-To-Understand.
