The UAB Department of Neurosurgery is spotlighting staff to focus on the importance of hobbies for stress relief, wellness, and self-care. The goal of the series is to connect individuals across the department by highlighting their hobby as it relates to mental, physical, emotional, intellectual, spiritual, environmental, social, and financial wellness.

The UAB Department of Neurosurgery welcomes Kristen Betts, FNP, and Savanah Kirchner to the team, effective Oct. 3.

In this podcast, Marshall Holland M.D. talks about the approach to a facial pain patient, neurosurgical options for different facial pain syndromes, the importance of listening to the patient’s story fully, and the need for good relationships with other providers that may be called upon for the treatment of the patient.

Six UAB Department of Neurosurgery residents will present their abstracts as an oral presentation at the 2022 Congress of Neurological Surgeons (CNS) Annual Meeting, Oct. 8-12 in San Francisco, California.

UAB Department of Neurosurgery Executive Administrator Donna Bailer, J.D., LL.M, and Communications Director Marissa Keppley, MBA, were recently inducted into the UAB Healthcare Leadership Academy.

A previous article published in the Journal of Clinical Investigation titled "N-cadherin upregulation mediates adaptive radioresistance in glioblastoma" has been recommended in Faculty Opinions as special significance in its field by University of Missouri faculty member Alan Parrish, Ph.D. UAB Department of Neurosurgery Professor Erwin G. Van Meir, Ph.D., and Assistant Professor Satoru Osuka, M.D., Ph.D., co-authored this paper in 2021.
