- PCRP adopts the Co-Production model to promote quality learning and clinical outcomes in the health care system and aims to develop competent advanced practice provider (APP)-level mental health professionals to meet the needs of the medically ill population, including patients and their caregivers.
- PCRP offers a 2-year training for post-master level counseling residents with rotations in Palliative Care, Psycho-Oncology, and Geriatric Care to advance professional counseling competency through direct inpatient and outpatient care, didactics, supervision, case conference, division grand rounds, and quarterly milestone evaluations.
- PCRP offers funding support for both on-site and off-site supervision, as well as on-site parking during the training period for all residents.
- Residents are expected to participate at least 20-hour on-site training activities for 50 weeks in a training year and to demonstrate competencies in the following domains: Patient Care, Communication, Psycho-Oncology Process, and Professional Development. - Residents are encouraged to take UAB graduate level courses during residency if plan to enroll in the 2000 clinical hours + 15 credit hours training track.
- Residents are eligible to participate in Psychosocial Oncology Training Academy (POTA) training (insert link to potaproject.org) and earn up to 17 CEUs during their residency training at no additional cost and become a POTA preferred referral network provider once complete all required POTA training.
- Residents will work with their assigned ALC supervisors and PCRP Director to complete quarterly milestone competency evaluation on UAB MedHub to ensure that they meet professional training goals and acquire advanced clinical competency related to psycho-oncology subspecialty.
- Upon the completion of the PCRP, residents will be expected to successfully pass the ABEC ALC annual evaluation and meet the hours required to sit on the License Professional Counselor Exam.
