Gibson completes tropical surgery rotation in Malawi
UAB Department of Surgery resident Quince Gibson, M.D., recently had the opportunity to travel to Malawi- before the COVID-19 pandemic- to participate in a tropical surgery rotation. Gibson outlines his experiences during the rotation, which he calls “life-changing” and credits with giving him a “greater appreciation” for the surgical training and life in the United States.

As part of the Southeastern Society of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery (SESPRS) annual meeting, the organization hosts a medical student abstract competition, where the top eight abstracts submitted are selected for oral presentation in a special session. For the first time in recent history of this competition, six of the eight selected abstracts were current or former medical students from the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB).
