First Impact Service

First Impact members make an impact! Mentors and mentees engage in civically focused actions which promote members’ awareness of how their actions positively affect communities, the individuals in those communities, and social issues those individuals may experience.

Furthermore, these events also allow members to enhance their sense of belonging in the UAB campus and community by expressing and experiencing acceptance, inclusion, empathy, and support.

Blazers@BHM

Blazers@BHM is a three-day immersive experience designed to kickstart first-year students’ engagement with the campus and community. First Impact students move-in to their residence halls early and are quickly connected to their peer group and mentor. As the first event in the First Impact experience, Blazers@BHM gives students the opportunity to establish relationships with other students and staff, identify opportunities to get involved on campus, and engage in volunteer opportunities in the days leading up to the first day of classes for the Fall semester.

Winter Service in the City

As an opportunity to engage in civically focused actions, First Impact gathers the Monday after the fall semester’s end to engage in direct service. This one-day service immersion experience offers First Impact members space to grow in their leadership abilities, to actively engage in service initiatives, and to reflect on their role in social issues within their communities.
