Since 1983 the Miss UAB Scholarship Competition has been an official preliminary to the Miss Alabama and Miss America competitions. The program offers young women the opportunity to further their educational goals through scholarships and personal growth. Students involved in the Miss UAB Scholarship Program gain valuable experience and opportunities to enhance leadership and interviewing skills, talent, poise, and confidence. More than $4,600 in scholarships are awarded to the winner and alternates.
Miss UAB goes on to compete in the Miss Alabama Competition in June.

Requirements
Candidates will be required to submit a notarized contract, supplemental paperwork, and pay the Miss America $39.99 annual fee.
All contestants who participate in the Miss UAB Scholarship Competition must be:
- Must be 18 by state competition, and no older than 27 at state competition
- A full-time undergraduate or graduate student in good academic standing at UAB with a minimum 2.5 cumulative GPA
- Must be a female
- Must be a United States citizen
