Melissa Mercer

Education:   a senior majoring in Bioinformatics with minors in Computer Science and Biology, in the Accelerated Bachelor’s/Master’s program in Data Science.

Community Service Initiative:   Self-Defense Awareness and Training

Scholastic/Career Ambition:   Mercer is preparing to defend her computational neuroscience thesis on bulk RNA-Seq analysis of neuronal tissue samples. Her short-term goals include completing a Master’s degree and pursuing a Critical Language Scholarship to gain cultural and language experience abroad. Long-term, she aims to build a fulfilling career that enables travel and personal growth. Currently, Mercer is developing essential database management skills for modern industries. With key interests in automotive engineering, aeronautics, and medicine—fields increasingly driven by data science—she aspire to work with meaningful and inspiring data that makes a lasting impact.
