The UAB Educational Foundation exists for the sole purpose of supporting the University of Alabama at Birmingham in its scientific and educational mission. This support includes managing and disbursing funds, acquiring real property, and providing general operational flexibility for the benefit of the University.
Our Vision
To provide the most efficient, flexible, and courteous service possible in support of the University and to maintain the highest reputation in our fiduciary responsibility to the University and its stakeholders.
Our History
The UAB Educational Foundation was created in August, 1965, as The University of Alabama Medical Foundation. In 1974, its name was changed to The University of Alabama in Birmingham Medical and Educational Foundation. In 1991, the name was changed to The UAB Educational Foundation.
The original founders and board members were:
- Dr. Frank A. Rose
- Dr. Joseph F. Volker
- Mr. Ehney A. Camp Jr.
The Foundation is exempt from federal income tax under Section 501(c)(3) and is an organization described in Section 170(c)(2) of the United States Internal Revenue Code (not a private foundation). It is controlled by the majority vote of the board. Currently, only the President can nominate potential new board members, with the whole board then voting on the new member. If the Foundation is dissolved, all of its assets must be transferred to UAB.
