Airgas available only on BuyUAB effective Oct. 1
UAB Facilities
and UAB Financial Affairs partnered in 2019 to pilot a new online ordering process via BuyUAB for Airgas orders. The pilot was successful and in August 2020 a phased implementation began to transition all campus Airgas orders to the new online ordering process. This online ordering method enables UAB to better track total spend, monitor returns of rented equipment, and more effectively estimate budgets. Effective Oct. 1, all orders must be placed online via the BuyUAB Airgas catalog.

Introducing EHSA: Enhancing Environmental Health & Safety at UAB
The Environmental Health & Safety team at UAB has launched a new software solution designed to enhance safety, compliance, and efficiency across campus. The Environmental Health & Safety Assistant (EHSA) system provides a centralized portal for research safety management, allowing faculty and staff to access safety information and complete tasks efficiently.

New rule impacts use of Methylene Chloride (Dichloromethane, DCM)
In April 2024, the EPA issued a final rule regulating methylene chloride (dichloromethane or DCM) under the Toxic Substances Control Act (TSCA). The rule is designed to individuals from health risks such as neurotoxicity effects and cancer from inhalation or dermal exposures. Anyone who manufactures, processes, distributes, uses or disposes of methylene chloride (DCM) or products containing methylene chloride (DCM) will be impacted by this regulation.

Stone named executive director of UAB Environmental Health & Safety
The University of Alabama at Birmingham welcomes Lee Stone as the executive director of UAB Environmental Health & Safety (EH&S) following a national search. He will join UAB March 1.
“We are excited to welcome Lee to UAB, where his experience and knowledge will serve him and our campus well,” said Greg Parsons, associate vice president and chief facilities officer. “We have taken great care and time to find the right person for this role, and we are confident Lee is that person. He will lead the way in creating a strong culture of safety on our campus, in our laboratories, and in UAB’s healthcare facilities.”
