Karen Heaton, Ph.D., assistant professor in the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) School of Nursing, was recently named as one of the top 40 Outstanding Alumni by the University of Louisville School of Nursing.
The recipients were chosen from a group of associates, bachelor's, master's and doctorally prepared alumni from the university and were nominated by their peers. The 40 outstanding alumni from the programs represent the university's 40 years of commitment to excellence in nursing. The awards will be presented at a formal ceremony on March 7.
This is the second Outstanding Alumni Award that Heaton has received. She was awarded the Outstanding Alumni Award from the University of Kentucky College of Nursing in 2013.
Heaton earned her bachelor's degree from UAB, her master's from the University of Louisville, a post-master's Family Nurse Practitioner certificate from George Washington University, and her doctorate from the University of Kentucky.
