BSN students contact donors to say 'thanks'

Thank a thon 2017

By Laura Lesley

The University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) School of Nursing’s Office of Development and Alumni Relations hosted its fourth annual Thank-a-Thon on Nov. 8, 2017. The event is held every year the week before Thanksgiving and is the only one of its kind across UAB’s campus.

Students in the Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) Program volunteer their time to personally call and acknowledge donors for their support of the School’s Annual Fund. This year, 11 BSN students spent the day making 453 calls to thank alumni for their generosity.

“Who doesn’t like to be thanked? Makes you feel good knowing you’ve made a difference, and a ‘thank you’ from a student is very special indeed,” said Pat Cleveland, who earned her BSN and Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) degrees from UAB in 1973 and 1975, respectively. “This is certainly one meaningful way to show gratitude to School supporters.”

The students also enjoyed getting to know the alumni and donors who have paved the way for them.

“Thanking alumni and getting to know them better is such a privilege,” said BSN student Amanda Darby. “You can tell they have a sense of pride in being a UAB School of Nursing graduate.”
