University of Alabama at Birmingham School of Nursing alumna Zeinab Hassan Al-Wahsh, PhD, RN, has been awarded the International Women’s Achievers Award in health and medical sciences for 2018 from the Venus International Foundation.
The award recognizes Al-Wahsh’s contributions to the prevention of hospital infection. She was selected among 18 women around the globe, and as an associate professor at Hashemite University in Jordan, she is the first Jordanian academic to win the award.
Al-Wahsh’s scholarly work focuses on hospital infection control and prevention. Her expertise in this area has been recognized by the International Society for Infectious Diseases, the International Sharps Injury Prevention Society, the Society for Healthcare Epidemiology of America and Hashemite University.
Al-Wahsh earned her Doctor of Philosophy in Nursing from the UAB School of Nursing in 2004. Her dissertation was titled, “Hand hygiene compliance and nurse patient ratio: A descriptive study.”
