School to host 26th Annual Dr. Jean A. Kelley Lecture on June 7

Mcsweeney Jean HeadshotDr. Jean McSweeneyThe UAB School of Nursing will host the 26th Dr. Jean A. Kelley Endowed Lecture, June 7, 2017, with Jean C. McSweeney, PhD, RN, FAHA, FAAN, professor and associate dean for research at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences, delivering the keynote address, “Developing a Prediction Model of CHD in Women: Emerging Risk Factors and Symptoms.”

The event will be held at 8:30 a.m. in the UAB School of Nursing Learning Resources Center, Room 104, 1701 University Boulevard. It is free, but space is limited. You must RSVP to Lauren Antia, lar@uab.edu or 205-934-2145 by June 5 to attend.

McSweeney is a pioneer in women’s cardiovascular disease and published the first study describing women’s symptoms. She has published in numerous scientific journals and was the lead author on “Preventing and Experiencing Ischemic Heart Disease as a Woman: State of the Science.”

McSweeney belongs to numerous professional organizations and served on the Advisory Council for the National Institute of Nursing Research and the NIH Council of Councils. She is a Fellow in the American Heart Association (AHA) and the American Academy of Nursing and has received a number of awards, including the AHA’s Katharine A. Lembright Award. She is a Distinguished Alumnus of the University of Texas at Austin School of Nursing and of the University of Texas at Arlington. 

The Dr. Jean A. Kelley Endowed Lectureship was established in 1989 to honor the School's retiring Associate Dean for Graduate Studies. Dr. Jean Kelley left an enduring legacy: pioneering the first doctoral program in the Southeast, carrying the School's master's program to outlying communities, and educating nurses to aspire to the highest levels of achievement.
