University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) School of Nursing first-year PhD student and UAB Blazer Graduate Fellow Macy Stockdill is a 2018 assembly scholarship awardee of the Hospice and Palliative Care Nurses Foundation (HPNF). As a recipient, she received a traveling stipend to attend the 2018 HPNF Annual Assembly in Boston, Massachusetts.
She has also been named one of the 2018 Emerging Leaders in Heart Failure by the Heart Failure Society of America (HFSA). As one of 15 to be chosen nationally, Stockdill is among other early career professionals dedicated to developing a career in heart failure who attended the 2018 HFSA Future Leaders in Heart Failure Symposium in Charlotte, North Carolina.
At the HPNF Annual Assembly in Boston, Stockdill received the opportunity to be seated with Judy Lentz, former Chief Executive Officer of the Hospice and Palliative Nurses Association at a reserved table along with four other awardees during the Annual Assembly Hospice and Palliative Care Credentialing Center Award Luncheon.
“Being honored by the HPNF and HFSA and attending their national conferences was an amazing opportunity to hear and learn from leading clinicians, researchers and scientists in the palliative care and heart failure fields,” Stockdill said. “These conferences tied together my research interest of how the integration of early palliative care in patients living with heart failure reduces symptom burden and improves quality of life.”
“Thanks to my mentor, Dr. Marie Bakitas, and all the support I receive at UAB, I have been positioned to constantly grow, challenge myself and make a contribution through my studies and the many research opportunities on campus.”
Stockdill earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) degree from the UAB School of Nursing in 2016. She is currently in her first year of the School’s BSN to PhD program.
